I was under the impression that Miscrosoft has always said they would never send out emails but a friend received one.  I tried searching to see if I could verifly the validity of the email but could not.  Has anyone else received such an email and is anyone aware that Miscrosoft has changed their policy of not releasing emails?

I'm taking the approach that it's more than likely SPAM or such.

I just noticed that the quoting function is broken in the forums.  I'm using IE 11 with Windows 7 64bit.

Well another year has gone by and it's the anniversary of my birth today.  I've finally made it to what most folks feel in the age that reflects maturity or senility, 65, not sure which one describes me best.  I do know one thing for sure, I have an over abundance of time to reflect on my life up until now.  I do try and nap a lot so I don't have to do the reflecting but you can only nap so much.

I have come to realize that it isn't s...

I just wanted to stop by and wish everyone in the community and especially all the great folks at Stardock and WinCustmize a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season.

Stardock, as usual has made 2013 a great year for the computer user and I'm sure 2014 will be no different.  WinCustomize has also kept providing the community with a place to share their individual skills and talents for all to make our computers look better and become more personalized.  It's ...

Normally I'm not a big fan of the Holiday season and go around muttering Bah Humbug.

Between Thanksgiving, Christmas, my Birthday (Dec 26th) and New Years it just reminds me of all the time that I spent away from family and friends because of the life paths I choose to take.

This time though I will be able to find some good things to remember.

I've finally been around long enough to become a member of the Double Dippers Club.  Now for those of you who don't k...

Hi ya community members:

Yesterday Stardock announced that along with Natural Desktop, and Aquarium Desktop 2009 that they were also retiring DesktopX.  http://forums.wincustomize.com/447316/page/1/#3386652

You will see by reading the link that folks who either had purchased DesktopX as a standalone app or had a Object Desktop subscription prior to yesterday will still have access to DesktopX.  DX's status has been changed to Legacy and is now showing as Unsupported.

Another month has passed and I thought I would look at what the installed OSs on desktops for June looked like.  You can check it out at this link, http://marketshare.hitslink.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=10&qpcustomd=0&qptimeframe=M

I'm not by any means someone who knows how the market trends work or someone with lots of IT background.  I would of thought that by now Windows 8 would be showing a higher market share.  I don't remember ...

Subject: How small is too small a caliber for self protection

"Woman stops gator attack with a small Beretta pistol."

This is a story of self-control and marksmanship by a brave, cool-headed woman with a small pistol against a fierce predator. What is the smallest caliber that you would trust to protect yourself?   A Beretta Jetfire testimonial:   Here is her story:

While out walking along the edge of a bayou just below Houma, Louisiana with my soon to be ex-husband discussing...

The result of making copies from copies ....

The new monk is assigned to helping the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand.   He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript.   So, the new monk goes to the head abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up!   In fact, that error would be continued in a...

Okay, you clicked on the thread so to finish my thought......everyone would only tell the truth when asked a question.

Yeah I know there was a recent movie out call The Invention of Lying that was centered around this.

It seems that most of the things wrong with our day to day life deals with and is centered around everyone, for what ever reason, finding it hard or impossible to tell the truth.  Now I can see some of the problems that would surface right away, would anyone ever v...

So my question is that since Microsoft has chosen to make changes to it's Windows OS will it have the effect of Desktop PC users giving Linux (Ubuntu) a look at and try on their desktops?

Is there enough software available that the user could transition to Linux?

Okay, this is not meant to bash Windows 8 but to ask a valid question when it comes down to the Desktop PC.  Lets keep it friendly.

The reason that I pose this question is that recently my previous computer decided that it was done providing me any enjoyment in my life, (still not sure if it was suicide or murder, may have been the poisoned mushrooms).

I now have an off the shelf Gateway that has a second generation i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz, 500GB HD, 16.0GB of DDR3 ram (came with 4.0GB) and integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000.  Trying to be as intelligent as I could be about setting up the new computer I was advised to f...

Oh yeah, just like it has happened to some of you folks, there I was, minding my own business when my computer just started acting up and doing strange and crazy things.  I ran all the anti-virus and malware scans and came up finding nothing.  Only problem was that each time I rebooted something else was going wrong.  After the third reboot and not being able to get to Control Panel from the Start Menu I kind of knew there was a problem.  Had it looked at and was told th...

Just wanted to take a moment and thank all of the great skinners in the community for some really fantastic skins that are being uploaded to the WinCustomize Gallery Libraries.  For some folks like myself, who are not skinners, it is a great pleasure to check out all the skins, usually on a daily basis, and marvel at what the skinners are able to keep coming up with.

Now I know there have been comparisons between skins of today and those of past years.  Lots of changes have be...

Hi folks

I like coming to the forums to ask pretty general questions and this is one of them.

For lack of knowledge or whatever it may be I use Windows Live Messenger.  I have one email account get a great amount of emails (maybe three to five in a busy week).  I chat mainly with one person who doesn't use or like WLM and uses Yahoo.  The problem is that alot of the chat we type never shows up on the other persons screen.  Yes, it does get frustration at ...
