Okay, so I take it that all browsers these days have a tab function now.

So my question is do you use the tab function?

If you do, is it because it's usefull or because it's just there?

If you don't, why?

I'm just starting to use the function in my browser, and was just wondering what other folks are doing.

EDIT:  The reason I didn't mention what browser I was using was I didn't want this to turn into 'mine is better than yours'.  I use IE8 beta.  I have always used IE, that's not to say that other browsers are as good or better.

A lot. I normally have 3 to 4 tabs up. Saves me from using the back arrow in many cases. I use the right-click "Open Link in New Tab" to check things out without loosing the page I'm at. A good example is a Google Search. I just keep opening new Tabs until I find the best one for what I'm after, all the time keeping the original search list available. FF3

I've been using tabs since I first started using Firefox...back when Version  was newly released. I've usually got 3 tabs open at the same time after opening my browser, one for Gmail, one for a few tech blogs I read and one for WC

Occasionally it so happens that I want to read two BUMPED forum posts at the same time, so I middle-click on one of them to open it in a new tab while the other opens in the same tab....really, a lot like Zu's post.

If you do, is it because it's usefull or because it's just there?

It's useful because it saves taskbar space. I don't want my taskbar to have three FF windows open

And not counting Google Chrome, using tabs can sometimes cause trouble. For example, if Firefox crashes with 3 tabs open, I lose all three tabs. But if it's three windows open, I lost the window that crashes. [Though with the session restore feature it doesn't matter anymore]

So my question is do you use the tab function?

Yes

I'm just starting to use the function in my browser

Really? What browser do you use?

Back in the day when Opera came up with the idea of tabs i started using them almost religiously. I always have at least 6-8 open at any one time.
Ahhh good ol opera, what would ff, ie and now chrome be without it

On my old pc when my system crashed, opera would still remember the pages i had open and ask me whether or not i wanted to reopen them or start with a new page. Ahhhh i  Opera

Are you kidding?  Tabs are the best!  As many sites as you can open, under one window is the reason to use it!

I've used nothing but IE since its invention back in '92 and I watched it evolve into what it is today!

I hear nothing but complaints about IE, but it's weird that all other so-called competitors have come and gone.

IE8 is in beta and I'll be right there once it launches.

I usually have photoshop, sks, chatzilla and ff open at the same time. I need to have my browser tabbed ( I have at least 5 tabs open at once) cause I hate it when the taskbar starts grouping my tasks!

I love using tabs, easy and useful. I also use a great add-on for Firefox called Cool Previews by Cooliris, it lets you preview your current page without leaving it. The link for it is ... http://cooliris.com/site/firefox/ if anyone is interested. If it's a no-no to give out links, my apologies.

I use tabs in Windows Explorer. Tabs are just more efficient.

Sorry to break your bubble, but Opera did not do tabs first in a browser.

I use them all the time, I usually have about 5 open.

I use 'em.  I have 5 set up when I open IE.  Email, WC, DA, MaxStyles and Skinartistry.  So much nicer to switch back and forth.

It's not a no-no to give out links. But it's a yes-yes to make the links clickable. First type some text, select it and press the button. Then insert the link. Then press Insert. Then you're done.

I use em' like crazy as well. Especially like Zubaz said, while other pages are loading i can read news, look at por....   i mean look at WC,DA, and customize.org  amongst others.
