So we all know that we need to do PC maintenace to catch all the nasty things we pick up surfing the web. I've been doing it once a week on Sundays for along time. Not really having a problem except lately I'm wondering if it needs to be done once a week.

The reason behind this is that I think I just might have gone overboard with the amount of programs that I use to assure myself of being bug free, as it were. Only one anti-virus program, because we all know that more than one on your machin...

As most of us have realized and figured out there are several ways of getting to your favorite destination.

Many out there use their Web Browser of choice, whether it be IE, FF, Opera or one of several others that are available. Lately I've seen people tout the virtues of SeaMonkey. Then there are those that use SDC and just click Web Browser on the left hand side and even some that click WinCustomize and use its browser. Needless to say we all get to our final destination.

Now the WC...

Well I thought this was interesting, atleast there would appear to be a consumer base out there and an after market need, especially since MS seems to have generated this market.
It would seem that this would allow alot more computers to be used, if only in a reduced capacity because of hardware, after people upgrade to bigger and better systems.

Of cource this will have an adverse effect on the number of PC's in use and which OS is loaded on it XP or Vista. I wonder if MS took that into co...

Hey, an Apple OS story, how about that. It only seemed fair that If I post Vista and Linux articles/stories than Apple should have one.

Once again this was found on eWeek Micrsoft Watch, wait, what's up with that!

What's Wrong With Leopard's Spots?

Last week I asked if Apple rushed Leopard to make the holiday that Vista missed. Whoa! The answer is looking more and more like a definitive yes.

The complaints by users sound a lot like those made about Windows Vista, particularly thos...

Now this should get the kettle boiling! At the one year point of the initial release of Vista you knew this was going to happen. Before anyones starts in on me, no I don't use Vista, still on XP Home. I haven't even seen Vista on a computer. I find these articles/stories and feel that they would be of interest here in the forums. Actually I get entertainment out of watching folks come unglued when ever the subject of OS's finds its way to the forums. I lead such a lonely life.

Okay, so the non-Linux user has come across some more articles about this upstart OS that wants you to consider it as an alternative to Windows and Apple. But it's not about Ubuntu, but one of their other versions Red Hat Fedora and it's soon to be released vesion 8. What, no cute name. What are they thinking?

The articles/stories were found on c/net News.com.

Red Hat's Fedora 8 hope: An all-purpose Linux foundation

Over the years, Red Hat's Fedora has made a name for itself as a ver...

Not sure how anyone missed this from Monday, or maybe just nobody really cares. Well I'm not really sure about that either, seems to me there are alot of posts here in the forums about which OS is better.

Since I found an article on Linux this morning why not open up this can of worms for discussion. Maybe this will pull in the XP vs Vista folks.

No matter what your opinion you do have to admit that Apply's OS is a valid alternative to Windows's Vista, or maybe not.

These articl...

Is it me or are there more articles lately about Linux and the availability of it loaded on computers?

Okay, you are only going to be able to get it selected at Wal-Mart for now and yes no monitor. For $200 you are lucky they have a keyboard and a mouse. Oh look it has speakers!

Alright, I'm not really making fun of this article. Remember I'm the one that at times seems to go out of his way to find Linux articles.

Most if not all of us will probably consider this no more than a toy. ...

Ever since the first WB6 Beta came out I've been toying with the thought of looking for a different sidebar program. I'm currently using Desktop Sidebar and it is a nice program, lots of skins to choose from (many go with the WB's in the WC library) and enough addins to make anyone happy.

With the transparency and blurring capability now in WB6 and seeing how good the Magic Suite looks especially with that Vista Sidebar I'm considering downloading Thoosje Vista Sidebar 2.3. From what I can ...

I came across a couple of Linux articles this morning, seems fair since Ubuntu is coming out with an update.

Now I post these not as a Linux user, (which I'm not) I just want to stay up with how they are doing and if it looks like there's a chance that it will become another choice of OS. You just have to like choices.

There has been a thought in the back of my mind as to whether or not they would have a better chance in the OS wars if they were not open source, but then I guess patents t...

So the computer is going on four years old now and it's probably about time it will start acting up or worse, show signs of getting ready to die.

I run anit-virus, anti-sypware and clean-up programs along with defragging the HDD

I've gone to Major Geeks to see what is there and if they had recommended choices. I found the following:

Find out what is inside my computer:

Everest Free Edition
AIDA32
PC Wizard
SIW (System Info)
WinAudit
SIV (System Information Viewer)

Okay so it's Wednesday and I'm bored.

I've always wonder about this so I did a little searching and came up with the link. All the ads seem to offer the same, get satellite tv on your pc for the one time cost of the software.

Now lets get this question out of the way, "Do I need it?", no. I allready have Dish Network TV top of the line service with HD.

It's getting close to the Holidays so I'm looking around to see what I might want. I've got to spend my spare time on something!

eWeek Microsoft Watch posted this little goodie today.

Here's a big number: 20 percent of Microsoft Office's U.S retail sales are the Mac version, according to NPD. Here's another: Mac users account for 10 percent of retail Windows Vista Business and Ultimate sales.

Those startling statistics are yet another sign of the Mac's resurgence and of the huge opportunity it creates for the largest Macintosh developer outside of Apple. Microsoft produced Mac versions of Excel and Word long befor...

When I look throuh the forums posts that identify problems, alot of the times it is suggested to update the device drivers. What is the recommended way of doing that, going to the vendors web site or using the Device Manager under System Properties?

The reason I ask this is that whenever I go to nVidia's web site to see if there are new drivers for my video card I have no idea what I'm doing.

Wired Magazine ran this story/article on last Friday, Your Outboard Brain Knows All

We're running out of memory. I don't mean computer memory. That stuff's half-price at Costco these days. No, I'm talking about human memory, stored by the gray matter inside our heads. According to recent research, we're remembering fewer and fewer basic facts these days.

I'm an old fart but had to agree, can't even remember my own cell phone. I usually say, "Well, I don't call myself" Duh. ...
